Midsummer Bike Night at Castle Combe

Chippenham & District Wheelers are inviting all members of the local community of any age and ability to dust of their bikes and take to the race track to enjoy the annual Midsummer Bike Night.

The event takes place on Tuesday 21 June 2011 at Castle Combe Race Track and is a challenge for all ages to complete as many miles as possible in the three hours available. The target is for everyone to help reach a collective total of 5,000 completed miles and provides a unique opportunity to cycle around the race track.

The event starts at 6pm and entry costs just £3 for Adults and £2 for under 18’s.

This year the club has decided to use the event to help raise much-needed funds and awareness for local charity Life Cycle's Two’s Company project which gives visually impaired, disabled people and people with early stage dementia opportunities to come cycling on the back of a tandem.

Rides are organised on local routes around the area and further afield. A typical ride has up to eight tandems, each with a sighted person at the front and a visually impaired/disabled co-rider behind. The rides are enjoyable days out, and also opportunities for people to socialise and make new friends. They are free of charge

Attractions at Midsummer Bike Night include:

  • British Cycling ‘Go Ride’ skills circuit,
  • Free fitness test from DC Leisure
  • Chance to win gym membership (DC Leisure)
  • Wiltshire County Road Safety Unit
  • Parts and accessorieis from local bike shop - Cycology Bikes
  • Tandem riding opportunity
  • Refreshments at the Tavern

Local charity Sustrans, who oversea the National Cycle Network will have information on local cycling routes and cycling as a health enhancing activity. Refreshments will be supplied in the Tavern so it’s a great opportunity for all the family to come down on the night and take part.

The ride takes place between 6pm to 9pm. Visit Chippenham Wheelers website for more information.
