In April 2010 Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils, through Cycling City are entering into a partnership wtih Sustrans to set up a network of rangers to extend the very successful and effective volunteer ranger programme that covers the National Cycle Network.

The role includes monitoring and maintaining identified Cycling City routes as well as other duties, including the role of Cycling City ambassadors at events.

Rangers will monitor identified Cycling City routes across Bristol and part of South Gloucestershire dealing with minor agreed problems themselves, and reporting any faults or defects that need the attention of the local authority. They may also assist with problem assessment, temporary signing, assisting with cycle counts and attendance at events or community meetings, for example.

This is very much a trial and we'll be working things out with the rangers as we go.

It all depends on a good range of people coming forward to be rangers. If you are interested in being more involved in the Cycling City project and in making Greater Bristol even more of a Cycling City, and if you can spare a couple of hours a month then we want to hear from you.
